Our Mission
Above all else, our goal is to create the healthiest and most mentally sound dogs possible. We are not a major kennel, and any dogs that come through our home are treated like family members. We only plan to breed every few years.
A lot goes into deciding to add more dogs to the world, especially in the US, where there are major overpopulation problems. In fact, before owning our first Swedish Vallhund, Pepper, we only owned rescue dogs.
But rescue dogs aren’t for everyone. You never know what health problems or behavioral problems a dog may have, and for many households, that simply isn’t compatible. Many people can’t manage a reactive dog or need a safe dog around their other pets.
So when we got Pepper, our goal was to pick a breed with a great reputation for being both people and dog friendly, with a drive that would suit our high-intensity lifestyle (but still can sit back and relax with us) and had proven longevity.
Swedish Vallhunds are some of the most charismatic, talented, and fun dogs around and boast very few health issues compared to many other purebred dogs. Our mission is to ensure the breed’s longevity while also giving the life-changing experience of an excellent dog to people who want it.
What Do We Breed For?
-
We believe breeding for herding drive means a dog will have drive for all the other things we love to do with them - obedience, hiking, playing with our kids, and more. We select from herding lines and make sure to keep the “working dog” a working dog
-
We look for lines to combine that have excellent health and longevity, and look to balance and breed out negative traits
-
The thing with high-drive dogs is they can be obsessive or stand-offish if you don’t balance with other characteristics. We look for a love of people and affection that balances their need to work. We want to make confident dogs with a sense of humor and a bomb-proof nature that makes them great companions everywhere.
Where are our dogs raised?
We own a house with 5 acres of wooded, natural ponderosa pine forest. All our dogs live with us indoors and are off-leash every day on our large property.
We don’t spray any chemicals or have a tended lawn - our puppies get to touch the dirt (which has been proven to improve their immune systems).
Our goal with our first litters is to have puppies that are pre-started on off-leash training and potty training outdoors.
